Writing
Writing is comprised of two tasks. Writing task is different for General and Academic students.
- Task1 – In this section, General test takers have to write a formal / semi-formal / informal letter.
However, Academic students have to describe a visualisation such as graph, report or pie chart.
There must be 150 words in the letter or report. - Task2– Test takers will be presented with a statement and students will be asked to write a essay on it. Students have to write minimum 250 words.
Task response will be evaluated on following four parameters:
- Task Achievement for Task 1 and Task Response for Task 2
- Task Achievement (For task1) – This criterion assesses how well you have addressed all parts of the task, including the content, organization, and coherence of your response. It also evaluates your ability to present, highlight, and illustrate key features and compare data if required.
- Task Response (For Task2) – This criterion evaluates how well you have developed and supported your ideas, addressed the task, and maintained coherence and cohesion in your essay. It also assesses your ability to provide a clear position, present relevant main ideas, and support them with explanations and examples.
- Coherence and cohesion – This criterion assesses the overall clarity and organization of your writing. It considers how logically your ideas are presented and how effectively you use cohesive devices (e.g., linking words, pronouns, connectors) to connect and sequence your ideas within and between sentences and paragraphs.
- Lexical resource – Lexical Resource evaluates the range and accuracy of vocabulary you use in your writing. It assesses your ability to use a variety of words and phrases appropriately, as well as your ability to spell and use collocations and idiomatic language effectively.
- Grammatical range and accuracy – This criterion evaluates your control of grammar and sentence structure. It assesses your ability to use a variety of grammatical structures accurately, as well as your ability to produce error-free sentences with accurate punctuation and word order.
