All non EU passengers traveling to the UK starting from January 8th had to pay an ETA fee of £10. This fee was also applied on passengers traveling on connecting flights.
However, on backslash from U.K. aviation and airport industry, Home office has decided to revert it for connecting flight passengers and issued a statement saying that “following feedback from the aviation industry, the government has agreed a temporary exemption for passengers who transit airside, and therefore do not pass through UK border control”.
It is also added that, “this scheme will primarily affect Heathrow and Manchester airports, as the only UK airports which currently offer transit facilities”.
Also, the Home office has proposed to increase ETA fees from £10 to £16. This decision will be debated in the parliament and on approval from both houses, it will come into effect.
As we have reported earlier, ETA was applied to all non-EU countries from January 8th. Although, from April 2nd, it will be applied to all 34 EU countries.
