Saudi Arabia has made changes in its one year multi-entry visa that can be used for tourism, business and family visits. However, Hajj, Umrah, diplomatic and residency visas will remain unaffected. Effective from February 1st, the visitors from 14 countries will be restricted to come on a 30 day single entry visa. These changes will affect citizens of Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen.
REASONS BEHIND THE CHANGES
These measures have been taken to control unauthorized pilgrims during Hajj. Saudi officials have stated that people are misusing multi-entry visas. They overstay in the country and do unpermitted work. Also, some people have performed Hajj without proper authorization.
Another contributing factor is, in 2024, 1200 pilgrims have died owing to heat and overcrowding. Officials identified that unregistered pilgrims are the contributing factor for this crisis.
TEMPORARY ACTIONS
With these measures, the Saudi government is ensuring that only authorized people perform the Hajj. It will also limit the overcrowding concern. Saudi Arabia is implementing these visa changes on a temporary basis. The effects of these changes will be analysed, based on which final decisions will be taken.
ADVICE FOR TRAVELLERS
The tourists from affected countries are advised to apply for a visa in advance. Also, they should adhere to the new travel rules to avoid penalties or travel disruptions.
