From the last two years, Poland is consistently ranking as the top country within the EU region to issue the highest number of residence permits. In 2023, Poland issued around 3.7 million resident visas to foreigners. In 2024, this trend continued with a rise of 4.7%.

Poland authorities are working on to overcome migration challenges the country is facing.

REASONS BEHIND MIGRATION REQUESTS
  • Poland is home for around one million Ukranians who have fled from the war zone
  • Rise in Employment based residence permits
SOLUTIONS FOR TACKLING THE ISSUES

Poland has a total of 1.55 million who hold residence permits. According to the Ministry, such numbers can lead to challenges for the registration system in various regards such as social integrity and security.

To deal with the above issue, Poland is planning to introduce Residence verification system for stricting residency and employment legislation. The new changes will affect from July 1st, 2025. The Ministry aspires to completely digitalise the application and issuance of work permits.

Other than that, these rules will be applied to educational institutes enrolling foreign students.

SECTORS AFFECTED BY NEW SYSTEM
  • Employers hiring foreign workers have to undergo stricter verification procedures. They will go through regular inspection checks. The purpose of these checks is to validate the reliability of employers to prevent abuse of foreign nationals
  • Foreign nationals who apply for residence and work permit
