Recently, New Zealand has introduced significant changes in their Active Investor Plus Visa program. This program can be used by wealthy investors to obtain Permanent Residency in New Zealand. The benefits of Active Investor Plus program are:
- Applicant can bring their spouse and dependent children under this program
- Permanent residency can be obtained after 4 years
- No language requirements
- Reduced the minimum time a person have to spend in NZ
- High quality of life
INVESTMENT CATEGORIES UNDER THE PROGRAM
- Growth or Higher Risk:
- Minimum NZD $5 million over a period of 3 years
- Spend 21 days in NZ over the investment term
- Balanced or Mixed Risk:
- Minimum NZD $10 million over investment term of 5 years
- Spend 105 days in NZ over the investment term
The period under the balanced category can be further reduced by investing more funds. A person must spend
- 91 days if total investment is at least NZD $11 million
- 77 days if total investment is at least NZD $12 million
- 63 days if total investment is at least NZD $13 million
The additional funds above $10 million must be included in the application before approval. It must be placed in acceptable direct investments or managed funds under the Growth Category.
RECENT CHANGES IN THE PROGRAM
- Cap on investment will be removed
- One should invest fully to be granted permanent residence
- “On Call Investments” option introduced for funds which the applicant has initially committed to place in managed funds. The acceptable investment options are bonds, term deposits, listed equities, bank accounts (maximum of 6 months for funds placed in term deposits and bank accounts)) until they are “called on” by the managed fund.
- In limited circumstances, Growth category applicants will be allowed to invest the earned capital into a balanced category investment provided it is less than NZD $1 million.
