Germany opened digital doors for processing Visa applications

On February 17, Germany launched a digital Consular Services portal for processing all visa applications. The system can be used to apply for all 167 visa categories that Germany provides. The new interface will fasten the visa processing and streamline the process by cutting down unnecessary paperworks.

A simple and safe online application process for visas to enter and remain in Germany is offered by the Consular Services Portal. Fill out your online application and have the German mission verify that it is complete beforehand. You will be ready to present your biometric information (picture and fingerprints) at the German mission when you meet there in person,” as per the official announcement.

This new portal can be used for applying for a visa for study, work, training, and family reunification.

PROCESS FOR APPLYING THE VISA
  • Students will fill the application form online
  • Upload required documents to the portal
  • German Authorities will review the form and documents
  • VFS will notify for biometric and document verification

Applicants have to submit the documents in-person at the VFS center along with providing biometric data.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock acknowledged that outdated, paper-based processes and long waiting times have discouraged professionals. “At times like these, as one of the biggest economies and as a modern country of immigration, we need a national visa process that is state-of-the-art – modern, digital and secure. And that is exactly what the Consular Services Portal is,”.

She called this reform “a real administrative revolution,” which will stand out Germany among Europe’s leaders in global immigration innovation.
