New Zealand has made significant changes in their immigration policies to fulfill labour requirements in the country. The reforments include reducing the required work experience from three years to two years, which will make it easier for immigrants to secure a job. The government has also adjusted wage requirements and introduced two new visas to accommodate seasonal and low skilled workers.
REDUCED WORK EXPERIENCE FOR IMMIGRANTS
The government has lowered the work experience requirement from three years to two. This move will make it easier for migrants to secure employment in the country.
The salary thresholds for Accredited Employer Work Visas (AEWV) and Specific Purpose Work Visas (SPWV) have been removed by the government. Employers now need to offer market-competitive salaries based on role and location but no longer are obliged to meet a fixed salary threshold.
TWO NEW PATHWAYS INTRODUCED
- A three year multi-entry visa for skilled seasonal experienced workers
- A single entry seven months visa for lower-skilled workers.
NEW SALARY THRESHOLD FOR MIGRANTS WITH FAMILIES
AEWV workers who want their children to accompany them in New Zealand must earn NZ$55,844 annually. This threshold has not been changed since 2019. The value has been set to ensure that migrant’s families can sustain easily in the country and cover their cost of living.
